The inimitable and legendary Milt Jackson this weekend. With a quartet feturing Mike LeDonne on piano, Pierre Boussaguet, bass, Mickey Roker on drums and Bobby Hutcherson, guesting and joining in.
The concert was recorded on June 13, 1999 – at the Konzertschuene in Salzau Germany and preserved for posterity by DW.
As one quarter of The Modern Jazz Quartet – Milt Jackson made an indelible name for himself in the annals of Jazz. But his collaborations read like a virtual who’s who in the Jazz world, and that cemented an already solid reputation for being one of the leading vibraphonists in the world.
That he passed away in October of 1999, makes this performance poignant in that it was one of his last. A truly remarkable artist who made a lasting impression, that continues to influence to this day.
Play this one loud and enjoy it.
